Lowestoft(1991 population 55,231) is the most easterly town in England. Apart from being a popular resort is also a fishing and shipbuilding town. Like Sherington, Lowestoft has connections with the English Civil war, Oliver Cromwell capturing the old town in 1643. In 1665 the coastal waters were the scene of a naval victory over the Dutch fleet. Lowestoft is 110 miles from Sherington. |
