Throughout the year there were several festivals and fairs which played an important part in the social life of the village community. These included occasions like Mayday, Harvest festival, local fairs, the village Feast and even the Gunpowder Plot Holiday. For events such as these, as well as others, the school would close for a half-day or even longer. Although most of these are no longer celebrated as holidays in their own right, Mayday is still marked by children from the school dancing round the Maypole. |
