Dunstable Downs
22 miles away from Sherington is Dunstable Downs and was a popular destination for day trips from the village. The opening of the nearby Whipsnade Wild Animal Park in 1931 made it even more popular. The White Lion at the zoo is still a landmark that can be seen for many miles. In 1930 the London Gliding Club brought gliding to Britain and was another reason to visit the Downs.
