This is what you see when you look south across Willen North Lake towards Woburn woods and the Brickhills. Beyond the island you can see warehouses, dual carriageways and a layer of greyish smog hanging close to the land surface. The villages of Milton Keynes and Great Brickhill lie in this direction, but cannot be seen because of all the new development.
