There were three pubs in the village, two still remain today - The Victoria and The Prince Albert both in Vicarage road, but The Bell Inn which was on the corner of Abbey Road and Primrose Road, is no longer a pub .

Jim Smith was the landlord of the Victoria Pub. He played a very important part of village life. He was a respected member of the community with one of his many roles being Billeting Officer. He was also in charge of the village Home Guard. Jim Smith was also an influential person in the village, the sort of person that would always try and help with anything you needed to know.
