NEWPORT PAGNELL FIRE BRIGADE

After the second world war the Fire Services Act of 1947 required County Councils in part to provide a permanent fire service. This had the effect of former local Brigades losing their identities as they had already more or less done so in the National Fire Service, introduced during the war. Even so to the population of Newport their local fire service remained their Brigade. | |||||||
On 1st April 1948, the Buckinghamshire Fire Brigade came into existence and Newport Pagnell became Station 12, within the Northern Division. The first appliance to be used by Station 12 was an Austin Towing Vehicle with trailer pump, but this was replaced in 1952 with a Commer Water Tender. |
