The fire station move to premise in Ousebank, unlike the Station in the High Street this new station was in two parts, one housed the engines while the other was used for an office and assembly room. In 1952 alterations were made to rise the entrance door where the engines were housed to enable modern appliances to be accommodated.
During the war years Newport Brigade found themselves as far a field as Birmingham and Portsmouth assisting at major fires caused by enemy action. On a number of other occasions they were sent to Reading on stand by as part of a column ready to move into the major ports along the south coast should the need arise.
