By 1911 it was possible to acquire a new steamer fire engine, which gave more sustained water pressure and able to feed more branches than the old manual, which would need two of them at large fires. The Urban District Council would not approve the money so the firemen led by Charles F Coales put all their effort into raising the £290, needed, In 1912 a Merry Weather Steam Fire Engine which was later called The Lovat was purchased, and a demonstration was held at Lovat Bank.
