But now under Milton Keynes the rates for Newport Pagnell had increaced and the premises was now too small so the brothers began to look for a new site. This was proving difficult and as farmers were being forced to pay back overdrafts to the banks, only the bear minimum was spent on farm machinery. It was decided to sell Newport Pagnell and combine with their retailing operation in Gawcott.
The Newport Pagnell site was sold.
