This Web Site covers aspects of the Bedfordshire agreed RE Policy for Christianity in KS1 and KS2. Teachers from other Local Authorities may find it useful and all the photographs may be downloaded and used in the classroom.
KS 1 Myself Belonging: Belonging to a religious group/organisation: birth/naming ceremonies. Special Places Church: Building where Christians meet. Used for Sunday and weekday services, baptisms, weddings, funerals. Worship may include reading the Bible, music, prayers, and stories. Introduce key internal and external features e.g. altar, font, spire, and tower. Local religious leaders: Their role in relation to places of worship. Fasts, Festivals and Celebrations. Begin to be aware that people celebrate special occasions: Christmas, Easter. KS 2 Places of Worship This Website will help pupils: - Identify and name key features of places of worship and explain their function in worship. Know the titles of leaders in faith communities and explain something of their role. Understand that objects have special meaning and can express religious belief. Describe some things people do when they worship. Church Main features and their function in worship e.g. altar, pulpit, lectern, and font. Symbols e.g. cross and/or crucifix. Worship: activities that take place e.g. singing, prayer, Bible reading, sermon, Holy Communion. Wider use of the building e.g. weddings, funerals, baptisms, confirmation, concerts, use of church hall. Role and leadership of e.g. vicar, minister, priest, pastor, elder. |
