SCU - Whaddon Hall
Whaddon Hall became the headquarters of the Special Operations Group of the Special Communications Unit Number 1 in 1939. This was under the command of Brigadier Richard Gambier-Parry. Whaddon Hall had its own receiving and transmitting stations situated in the extensive grounds.

In the aerial view below you can see a line of Nissen Huts behind the Hall that were used for the sending and receiving of messages.

After the war the Special Communications Unit became the Diplomatic Wireless Service. Which was also based at Whaddon Hall.
