Saving the Bell
The Boys' School closed in December 1958 and moved to a new site in January 1959, the school log reads 'school finally closed and the school bell rang for the last time'. The Infants' section remained on site but the bell wasn't used any longer. The ropes used to ring the bell rotted and there it hung motionless for nearly 30 years. In 1981 when Beaudesert Lower moved to its present site on Appenine Way it was decided that the old bell should go to the new school.
The job of retrieving the bell was given to Mr Chris Mason, a parent with children at the school at the time, who was also a member of the P.T.A.The children and teachers came out to watch as he climbed to the bell tower.

Chris rang the bell and called to the children, 'This will be the last time the bell is rung here'.
