At the turn of the century the school bell played an important part in school life. Its ring was the children's alarm call and there would be trouble for any child arriving after the ringing had stopped. |

To ring the bell was looked upon as an honour but at the same time the boys were always ready to have fun with it. One prank was to turn the bell upside down so as it couldn't be rung, this was a favourite for Friday afternoons when the Headmaster was out of school. |
