It was during this period, while John Knight was Rector of Calverton, that St Giles became a parish of its own. It therefore ceased to be a chapel of ease for All Saints parish in Calverton.

It is recorded that, in this year, the Bishop of Peterborough made an order for the repair of the church building as well as the chancel and pavement. The stopped up windows were opened and glazed at this time.
