One of the original members, Mrs Doreen Sibley, is still a member today nearly 50 years on, a fantastic achievement by any standard. The membership of Husborne Crawley W.I is now 12. The annual subscription in 1953 was 3/6, it is now £16.25. Mrs Sibley recalls that every Christmas the members of the W.I would go the Ampthill Cheshire home at Ampthill House and make and wrap Christmas parcels. Talking about Christmas, we always had a Christmas dinner with the roast turkey dinner being prepared by the committee; Mrs Frances as I recall always cooked the turkey. We often had outings, the one I remember best was to the Cadbury's factory at Bournville, a tasty day was had by all. At our regular monthly meetings we had a social half hour where we participated in little competitions where we got points if we won; at the end of the year the person with the most points got a prize. |
