Of course the tales surrounding Odells and the brothers were legion and some of them were true!

One antique dealer was amazed to find they still had in the 1960s a stock of Victorian door handles, selling at the original price.

A new firm to the town in the 50s ordered some dustbins and found them being delivered minutes later on a wheelbarrow by Mr Reg.

In front of the shop counter - organised chaos!
A model maker wanted some flints for a replica flintlock pistol and tentatively inquired if such things were still to be had. He was delighted and a little ashamed when he was shown a case full and asked which size he needed!

It was Mr Cecil who took a correspondent of a national newspaper to task for daring to ask in the late 1960s "Where have all the old flypapers gone?"

He told him in no uncertain terms that Odells still had a stock and would be quite willing to sell him some. The orders poured in!

Then there was the time a fire broke out at the shop in the middle of the night. Local firemen turned up with breathing apparatus and were just going to plunge into the smoke when the door opened and they were met by Mr Reg with a torch commanding "This way boys".
