The 1950's saw a lot of changes. Queens Avenue now the name of the road running along side W.J. Cooper's and named after Queen Elizabeth II was crowned was built.

Mr Cooper who took a great interest in local affairs had found time to serve as a member of the Newport Pagnell Urban District Council for eight years between 1947 and 1955. In 1953 he along with his wife May, was selected to represent the UDC with seats on the Parade route in London for Queen Elizabeth's Coronation.

In 1955 Wilfords Yard next to the Dolphin public house, was bought at auction for £2,430. It was used mainly for storage, but Mr Cooper had a display and sign in the front and a display in the window although it was never opened as a shop. Once the government had lifted it's spending restrictions after the war, Mr Cooper was finally permitted planning permission to change the frontage of the Phoenix Works.
Shop front, used only for display and storage.
