Phoenix Hall

The Phoenix Hall, Newport Pagnell's local dance hall. Dances were held there every week. During the war it was known as the Ambulance Hall and American service soldiers were dropped of there to attend the dances.
It was known as the Ambulance hall as it was sited above the local ambulance station. Some of the local people we've interviewed remember the many dances they attended and functions, as it was also hired out for weddings and private parties. They recall climbing a narrow winding stair case that lead to the hall.

Eddie Bayliss once again shares his memories with us:-

The hall became derelict in later years and dances were then being held in the newly built Lovat Hall, in Silver Street, Newport Pagnell.
