In 1895, the house standing immediately in front of the north side of the tower was pulled down to give the town a better view of the church.
Railings and a gate were put up, but these were removed for melting down to help the was effort. After the First World War, a memorial was erected, together with panels in the church, recording the names of the fallen. They were consecrated in 1920. |
