During 1943 - 1949 the acting landlady Jazzina Watts was reputed to have run " a private snug" reserved for selected guests. Jim Morgan (shown below ) recounts his memories of "the snug".
" In those days you entered the Red Lion through the little door on the front. If you turned right you were served through the door on the right hand side, which was a stable door. The room behind was a "snug". If Jazzina liked the look of you and preferred your company, she would open the bottom half of the door and you were invited into the snug. You had to be invited through, you did not just have the right". - |
