During the 'Early Years' the Boys' School always closed for the annual Swimming Gala on the last Thursday in July. The boys would swim for their 'House'. They competed for the H G Butcher Cup which was awarded to the House getting the most points in the Gala. There was no school swimming at Beaudesert during the war years, and after the war, (the 'Middle Years'), there were no facilities for the Gala, so it seems that the last Gala must have been in July 1939. It was to be almost half a century before Beaudesert was to compete in another Swimming Gala, this time the boys and girls in the 4th year at Beaudesert Lower School, swam for their school in an inter schools gala. This is now held annually at Tiddenfoot Leisure Centre, the competition is keen and the team members waiting for their race gave loud vocal support to the swimmers. Beaudesert haven't yet won the overall trophy but have achieved some good results.
