Lilbourne School
Lilbourne School was founded as a Parish School in 1857 and the 1871 census shows 56 scholars.
The 1870 Education Act said that board schools had to be supplied to all areas and that children up to the age of 14 had to attend.
In 1883 a new school opened in a building that ten years earlier had been a poor law cottage. It was said to have a capacity of 60 which is surprising as today it is a medium sized bungalow. It started as a C of E school and later became a state one. The average attendance being 30 out of a population of 150.
The school was also used for public meetings as there was no village hall at that time.
