Peveril Austin Hall war born in 1899. He was the son of Edward Allecock Hall and Leanora Caroline Hall, his father was a barrister.He had three brothers - Geoffrey Stanley, Allan Charles and Montague Heath Hall. He was born in Mozzufforpore in India.
He was educated at Marlborough College , before taking his army entrance exam to join the Royal Military Academy in February 1917. Before he was able to join however he had a bout of pneumonia and it was not until October that he was pronounced fit enough to go.
He spent some time living at Yelvertoft rectory and part of his early education may have been provided by Rev Gornall, the rector of the time.
Rev Gornall was responsible for the payment of the £35 for the expenses of the uniform, boots etc when Peveril joined the Army.
At his army medical he was described as being 69 inches tall and weighing 148lbs.
Peveril became a 2nd Leiutenant in the Royal Engineers.
He died at the Military Hospital - Fort Pitt , Chatham on the 5th November 1918. He was 19 years old. He was still undergoing training.
His address was listed as Brompton Barracks, Chatham and Yelvertoft Rectory.
He is buried in Yelvertoft churchyard - North of the church, in an area normally reserved for ecclesiastical graves. |
