Gerald Driver Overton was born on 24th May 1895. He was the son of Henry and Lilly Overton. He had an older sister called Elsie , a younger sister called Dorothy and a brother called George.
He lived in Yelvertoft.
He went to the village school and left there on the 2nd of August 1907 to go into the bakery trade.
When the war came he joined the Royal Warwickshire Regiment as a Private. Later he transferred to theLeicestershire regiment (9th Battalion)
He was killed in action on Friday 14th July 1916 during the Battle of the Somme.
He was 21 years old.
His body was never recovered and he is therefore remembered on the Thiepval Memorial, Somme, France. |
