He came from Watford, but moved to Elkington and started at Yelvertoft school on 28th September1905. He left school on the 25th September1908 to go back to Watford, later returning to Yelvertoft. He lived in Crick Road. . He was a grazier. He had brothers called Charles and William.

When the war came he joined the Northamptonshire Regiment (3rd Battalion) and he was a Private

On the 23rd of October 1918 Alfred died at home of pulmonary tuberculosis. He was buried in Yelvertoft churchyard on the 26th October1918.
