Arthur william Bottrill was born on the third of May 1894. He was the son of William John Hubert Bottrill and Kate Bottrill and he lived in Main Street, Yelvertoft. (now known as High Street) His father was a labourer.

He went to the village school and left there in June 1907, to go into farming.

When the war came he joined the Northamptonshire Regiment and became a Lance Corporal.. He was killed in action on the 17th August 1916 during the battle of the Somme. He was 22 years old.

His body was never recovered and he is therefore commemorated on the Theipval Memorial, Somme, France.
