Willen Church at Present
Back to Religion contents page
Willen church is described as a city church set down amongst fields and this image was preserved until the expansion of Milton Keynes in the 1960's, when its surroundings were suddenly suburbanised. Willen Church is one of only a handful of documented buildings by Robert Hooke which still survives.

Today, St Mary's Church is the dominant building in the townscape , thanks to its siting on a modest promontory and its tower.

Willen Church is included in the Statutory List of Buildings of Historical or Architectural Interest , grade 1.

Most recently , the church of St Mary Magdalene at Willen was described in Simon Jenkins' One Thousand Best Churches , publised in 1999.
