This chart summarizes the jobs done by people living in Willen in 1881. Most of the men worked as farm labourers of some sort, the women worked as servants or did home crafts, i.e. they made goods at home to sell to travelling agents who would visit the houses every so often to pick up the items made. Unlike the first half of the C19th most of the children go to school. Those people listed as 'other' did not have jobs. Very few people in the village had 'white collar' jobs, i.e. ones requiring an education and not muscles or deft hands. |
