The Point entertainment complex was opened in 1985. With it's 10-screen cinema, it was the first multiplex cinema in the UK. It also featured a nightclub, bars and restaurant and a 1500 seater bingo hall. In 1987 it attracted up to 40,000 visitors a week.
Many people of Milton Keynes will be surprised to know that this was one of the first proposals for the design of The Point.
This picture of the point shows it super-imposed to look like it's near a lake. It was featured on a postcard.
This is the point as it is now. It's red lights and triangular shape make it a distinct feature in Central Milton Keynes. To the left of the picture is the main shopping centre, hidden behind The Point is The Food Centre and part of the road where the two buses are visible is where Midsummer Place now stands.
