The Lives of children in Old Bradwell during WWII

Toys

Because of the Shortage of manufactured toys, shops were forced to buy home made items for resale to the public.

Among the most popular homemade items were lead models. Moulds could be bought and scrap lead from bombed or derilict buildings was melted down and the finished items painted.

Home made toys were very popular in WWII. Shown left is a selection from the toy collection at Bletchley park, they include a Race Horse, A Cork Snake, A Wallnut Cradle and A conker Chair.
