The house had a large Billards Room and was used for both business and pleasure, On one occassion a battalion of Lancers were stationed in Weston Underwood. Mr Mann invited the colonel and another local businessman for an evening nad by the time the Colonel left Mr Mann had obtained an order for boots for the whole battalion.
Mr Mann was a popular and well respected member of the community and was a familiar sight walking to and from his home to the Factory immaculately dressed with a bowler hat, silver topped cane and grey spats over his Hinde & Mann shoes.

Mr Mann was a most generous and thoughtful man that in December 1909 he presented 76 children at the local school with new boots. The following year 93 children received new boots and this continued until the First World War began in 1914.
