Iron Bridge - Bollards

The town was divided again from May 1998 to June 1999, when bollards suddenly appeared on our historical bridge. This was to stop heavy vehicles from crossing and causing more damage to the already weakened bridge.

Over the next few months the infamous bollards claimed countless wing mirrors and became adorned with a spectrum of metallic car paints.

Locals became inch perfect at missing the bollards - or not!!!
Services through Newport Pagnell were also affected during this period. Fire engines used an alternative route. Smaller ambulances and buses were brought into use.
Happily the bridge was restored and strengthened using modern technology and the bollards days were numbered.
