Manure

During the winter the cattle were kept in big yards. Twice a week straw was scattered on the ground and then when the cattle were turned out into the fields all the manure and straw was cleared out and taken by cart to the dung heap. After the harvest of the crops, the manure was loaded onto a cart and taken into the fields where it was spread by hand on the land. It was ploughed in and then the seed was sown for the crops. All varieties of crops were grown in this area so all the farmers were self-sufficient.
