A swimming pool was built in 1963.
Funds were raised by local people.
In 1967 the infant classes moved to a new building on the same site as the John Colet School. This was known as the John Hampden School.
In 1974 the old school closed and the Junior School moved to Wharf Road. This School retained its links with the Church and was known as Wendover Church of England Junior School.
To remind children of the history of the school they took with them:-
The Bell
The bell is now kept in the main entrance hall but is only rung once a year by the children when they leave to go to secondary school.
The gates
Log books and pictures.
The old school building was by now in poor repair.
"The walls were wet and I would get in early to wipe the walls to remove the fungus."
Local people hoped to buy the old School Building and to create a community centre.
Some of the funds were to come from the sale of the Literary Institute, which had been given to Wendover over 100 years earlier by the Lord of the Manor.
Instead, the old School Building was auctioned and bought by a property developer who converted it into residential accommodation.
