Milton Keynes has been a pioneer in environmentally conscious housing with more that 300 solar/low energy houses having built in the New City since construction began in 1970. Energy efficiency was the main feature of the houses built for the Energy World Exhibition in 1986. A lot of people visited the site and a lot of publicity was generated because of it.
