The Swan Revived << BACK
Eddie Bayliss, a local farmer born in 1929, reminisced about the Swan Revived.

"And then you come to the Swan. It used to be a very popular place for farmers. In that day and age there were alot of farmers in the area and you'd meet people in there, what we call travellers and you would call representatives, would be all there hoping to get an order, or more than likely hoping that one of the farmers would pay them some money they'd be owing for about 6/7 months.

That's when the Swan was more of a family hotel, as you might say, because ladies didn't go into pubs, never ever, unless they were off ill-repute, like you know. But you could take your wife or your mother, or go with your mother, you could only virtually either go in the Swan or the Anchor Hotel."
