MEMORIES OF THE DEVELOPMENT
Joan remembers about the time when Great Monk Street was being built.
"One Sunday we went for a walk just to spy out what progress there was on it. We stood on the bridge that is now over the subway into the shops of Greenleys. There was nothing there much. I could see my father's allotment and his fruit trees from that bridge. The subway itself was completely flooded, which is where the pond was situated. I remembered over on our allotment, my husband's and mine by then, one Star King Rose that I'd forgotten to take away. So I told my husband, "you'll have to go over there and fetch that". So during that following week he did and we still have it.
