Soldatensender Radio Show

Sefton Delmer started a new radio show on 24th October 1943. This new show was called Soldatensender Calais. It ran alongside Atlantiksender and was aimed at the German army and air force.

Glen Miller was an American musician who helped Britain in her propaganda war effort. He recorded songs and sung them in German. He even tried to speak a little German.

By this time Sefton Delmer was able to use the more powerful Aspidistra transmitter and during the D-Day landings was able to broadcast programmes for 24 hours a day. In these programmes he sent the German people reports of how well our soldiers were doing, sometimes exaggerating the successes of the British. These broadcasts were very successful and even Gobbels (a famous German general), said, "They do a very clever job of propaganda".
