With the approach of war, the needs became apparent to both monitor conditions within enemy territory and also devise means to produce and disseminate counter propaganda. The organisations tasked with these requirements were respectively the Political Intelligence Department and Department Electra House. Printed matter initially played a major role in the propaganda offensive but later secret radio transmitters were set up and increasingly employed. | |||||||
