Netherfield -Giraffe
A meeting of residents decided that children should be given the chance to design a play area, Liz Leyh set up workshops for the children aged 6 - 18 in her studio.

The design Liz Leyh and architects chose was a giraffe model made by 14 year old Marion Forbes, Marion's design had a slide in the neck but for safety reasons this was changed to sand pits.

About two hundred adults and children from the local community helped in the making of the giraffe. It measured thirty metres, over a hillside, it was constructed of rubble and covered in concrete then painted. It took about six weeks to complete with the help of residents part time.
