Angling
Angling became an official school sport for the Boys' School in 1935, at the time, it was believed that Beaudesert was the only school in the country to offer this activity. Mr Pacey was the teacher in charge, he used to buy tank aerials, (these would have been Army Surplus from the Second World War), adjust them and sell them to the boys for use as fishing rods.
The boys fished after school in the old sand pits at Grove and Grovebury Road, these would now be considered far too dangerous for a school activity. They also had matches along the Grand Union Canal, where they fished for their 'House'. In 1936 Leighton Buzzard Angling Club presented a Cup to the School which was awarded to the winning team. Roy Eggleton remembers in one match "I caught the most fish, the heaviest fish and had the heaviest bag -the heaviest fish was 4 ounces and even though there were about 20 fish they didn't weigh a pound between them!"
