The cupboard was another punishment used during the 1800's, not as dangerous as the basket but just as terrifying. This cupboard was located in the footwell of the Master's desk. Just large enough for a child to fit in, but no room to turn, and of course pitch black. If a child misbehaved, they were placed inside the cupboard and the door locked. It is believed that children were left inside for an hour or more at a time. |
