A very unusual form of punishment, was practised at Beaudesert, in the early 1800's. A large basket, which was attached to a pulley system, hung from the classroom ceiling, Any child misbehaving knew the consequences. The child was placed inside the basket and the basket was raised into the air. As the basket was very narrow, the child had to stand very still, to stop the basket swinging. The basket was approximately chest high, and with nothing but the sides to hold onto. This was a very dangerous and frightening experience. | |
